Supporting volunteers, individuals and organisations who manage village halls and community buildings within Gloucestershire

 
 

 

Open for 2025-26: Platinum Jubilee Village Halls Fund

Community buildings can submit applications for grants of between £7,500 and £75,000, which can be used to cover up to 20% of capital costs associated with renovation and improvement projects.

This process is highly competitive, so please only submit an application to the fund if you fit all the criteria, your project is ready to proceed and you have everything in place. This includes any required planning permission.

What can this fund be used for?

Capital improvements for community buildings that:

  • Upgrade facilities
  • Extend facilities
  • Improve facilities
  • Purchase capital items

And seek to achieve one or more of the following outcomes:

  • improved health and/or wellbeing and/or reduction in rural loneliness
  • positive impact on the local environment, contributing towards net zero
  • support for the local rural economy
  • promotion of community cohesion

Not eligible:

  • Routine maintenance associated with regular and general upkeep of a building
  • Building projects that have already started
  • New build village halls
  • Work that is undertaken solely to ensure compliance with Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements
  • Improvements to car parks, parking areas, adjacent recreational areas or landscaping
  • Architects, surveyors or specialist survey fees
  • Feasibility studies, planning applications or project managers’ fees

Applicants will be expected to showcase:

  • results of any community consultation regarding the community building that has taken place over the past 5 years
  • the wide variety of community activities taking place in the building, or that could take place once work is complete

Community buildings that are used permanently by a local school will need prove that this does not impact both the charitable objectives of the building and useage by the community.

Who can apply to this fund?

The following legal entities:

  • Registered charities
  • Charitable trusts
  • Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs)
  • Community associations that are registered charities
  • Multi-purpose church, scout or guide halls
  • Charitable companies
  • Parish & town councils who are sole trustees
  • Parochial Church Councils

Not eligible:

  • Community Interest Companies (CICs)
  • Companies
  • Sports pavilions
  • School halls
  • Parish & town councils that are custodian trustees
  • Previous beneficiaries of the Village Hall Improvement Fund or Platinum Jubilee Village Hall Fund

Only community buildings located in rural areas, with a population of less than 10,000 in the 2021 census, are eligible for funding. Click here for Gloucestershire parish profiles to find out your 2021 census population.
